Last week, the Origin Craft Awards 2012 announced the winners of its annual craft and hobby awards, commending independent retailers across the country. The Knit Club, Caterham's local wool shop was amongst the few recipients of an award. The Knit Club at 27 High Street, Caterham-on-the-Hill has been announced as "Regional Knitting Retailer of the Year". This is an exciting feat, not only because The Knit Club was in the same category as long established knitting shops in London and the South East, but because the shop has yet to reach it's first birthday. Opened in July 2011, by 25 year old designer Louise Dungate, The Knit Club has seen an astonishing response to knitting and crochet within the community. Their weekly Knit Night attracts a large number of knitters, of all ages and abilities and the shop has welcomed customers from all corners of the country. But, as a young shop, Louise feels there is still much more to accomplish. Amongst other encouraging plans, the shop will be offering free knitting workshops over the summer and is looking to run knit clubs at local schools and colleges from September. Louise, the shop's owner says "I'm extremely proud of all we have achieved in such a small amount of time. We owe a huge amount of thanks to our team; Yoke, Sarah and Lucy, our supportive customers and everyone who voted for us in the awards. I'm sure we'll be having a huge party to celebrate!"
