Have a great night out ‘Bollywood’ style!
Published: Monday, 01 April 2013 03:21

One of Caterham's wellknown 'hot-spots' is Bollywood Indian restaurant. Bollywood has built up an excellent reputation over the years and become a firm favourite amongst diners looking for a spicy night out in Caterham Valley!

My friend Sue and I dined there recently and received a warm welcome from the friendly staff. We were soon settled down with some Popadoms and a bottle of delicious house red wine, 'Pionnier 2011' - a mellow French wine.

After perusing the large selection of starters Mr Miah, the owner of the restaurant, recommended the charcoal roasted 'Sula Salmon' cooked with peppers and onion in a clay oven, 'Chicken 65' cooked Hyderabadi style with curry leaves and green chilli and 'Meat Dosa', lovely lamb with spices served in a chapatti roll.

The food was wonderfully presented and was perfect for Sue and I to share. The chicken was quite spicy with a nice charcoal grilled flavour and Sue was especially impressed with the lovely tender salmon with the accompanying vegetables.

As we were tucking in the restaurant was gradually filling up with other diners and there was a friendly, warm ambience in the restaurant.

Mr Miah again recommended some superb main course dishes. Sue and I wanted to try something different to our usual favourites on this visit. Mr Miah said that they are good at judging their customers' taste in food and like encouraging them to experience something new. We were served with 'Lamb Shaslik' that had been cooked on a skewer, 'Kadi Gosht', a medium hot lamb stew and a wonderful 'Murgh Sagrana', the chef's speciality cooked with cream and spices which was an especially big hit with Sue and me!

All of the dishes including the vegetable accompaniments were generous portions and we loved the various combinations of flavours.

Sue and I were very pleased to have been introduced to some exciting new dishes which we probably would not have chosen ourselves. We had been served a custom- made meal specifically to suit our personal tastes. Wonderful!
