On Wednesday 9th February, choirs from four local primary schools recorded a CD for the National Sing-Up Day Singing Festival. The recording took place at St. Francis RC Primary School in Caterham- on-the-Hill, the current Sing Up Gold Award holders. The choirs from Hillcroft, Audley, Marden Lodge and St. Francis RC Primary Schools, were accompanied by professional musician David Palmer who composed one of the pieces, 'The Lord is My Shepherd' from Holy Boy. The children had been practising the specially-selected songs in their own schools, culminating in the production of the CD. The collaborative project captured the essence of the 'Sing Up' programme, that is to encourage schools to use singing as a tool to improve learning and confidence and to bring communities together. Music teacher, Karen Hardy, said afterwards: "It was a fantastic afternoon, really exciting. For me it has been a real privilege going into each school to work with the children.
