On Thursday 26th May St. Francis' Catholic Primary School in Caterham-on-the- Hill held their annual Talent Show as part of their very popular Arts Week. An act from each class performed in front of the judges that included East Surrey MP, Sam Gyimah. On the same day, Derek Jones, Teaching and Learning Manager for Surrey Arts South West presented the school with the prestigious Platinum Award from the National Singing Programme as part of the Sing Up awards. The awards recognise, celebrate and promote schools that put singing at the heart of school life. Mr Jones praised the school's commitment to singing, saying: "I am delighted to endorse this Platinum Award for St. Francis'. Time and again they have shown that singing is a vitally important part of school life, and they are a wonderful advert for the positive effects brought about by this musical activity." St Francis' is the first school in Surrey to receive this award, and one of only 80 schools in England, due to its outstanding dedication to singing. This Platinum Award will allow the school to spread their enthusiasm and commitment even further and become an ambassador school. |
