Hillcroft Primary School in Caterham-on-the-Hill hosted an 'International Week' recently to reflect the many cultures that make up today's British society and proved a huge success. Head Teacher, Stephanie Scutter and Deputy Head, Esther Brooks lined up a range of exciting activities for the children and erected an events marquee in the school grounds to stage the various activities planned. The theme was also supported by the school catering staff who organised dinners each day from around the world, comprising Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Australian and the traditional British Roast. The were many visitors to the school throughout the week, including street dancers, Afro-Caribbean and Irish singing and story telling, Samba and African drumming, Chinese ribbon dancing, the BFG and Native American visual artists. The school also welcomed support from parents, who shared their skills and cultural experiences. The week ended with a quiz trail that encouraged parents into the school to support their children as well as being able to walk around the school to gain an insight into the children's learning. Mrs Stephanie Scutter, Head Teacher at Hillcroft Primary School said; "We have all thoroughly enjoyed bringing together a better understanding of the many cultures that exist within our school, our local community and Britain. We are delighted at the support we received from our participators and parents to help our children gain an appreciation and insight into the many cultural differences that exist in today's society and we are confident that this will become an important event in Hillcroft's diary moving forward." |
