Students from de Stafford, Woodcote and Warlingham Secondary Schools have been learning how to look out for each other and work as a team during the Community Road Show event that took place from Monday 3rd to Wednesdauy 5th October. The Road Show covered various community issues including rights and responsibilities, being part of an effective community, global issues, and bullying. Mrs. Kate Harris, Director of Community Cohesion at de Stafford School helped coordinate the Road Show with help from ten students from each school. Mrs. Harris, said that the objective was for the newly formed Year 7 cohorts to "bond together as a year group...and promise that they will always be part of a team and look out for one another". Covering the topic of bullying was one of the most moving parts of the Road Show. With the encouragement of Year 10s some Year 7s began to share their experiences. In particular, Year 7 de Stafford student, Charley Faulkes, was fantastically courageous when she stood up and explained to everyone how she moved to several primary schools due to bullying. Overall, Mrs. Harris was exceptionally proud of the new Year 7s, saying: "They all acted with maturity whilst tackling some difficult social issues. I am certain that the Year 7s will keep to their promise and work well as a team throughout their time at secondary school." |
