Whyteleafe School has been awarded the British Council's prestigious International School Award for schools that do outstanding work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council's work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens. Whyteleafe School's international work includes curriculum linked international work; a very positive foreign language Ofsted inspection; a Day of World Languages; international Eco awareness; French and German clubs plus an International Harvest Festival, a visit to the Christmas Market and a charity Enterprise Week. The school is proud of its link with Kimilili Primary School in Kenya. Pupils have been exchanging letters and children brought in items of stationery to donate to the schools. Geraint Jenkins, MBE said: "I have witnessed first hand the interest and enthusiasm of your staff and pupils towards other cultures throughout the world and the achievements they have attained are extremely commendable. "The children of Kimilili Primary Schools in Kenya have benefitted enormously by having a link with Whyteleafe School. Their excitement at receiving letters and writing back to the children has to be seen to be believed. They develop educationally and socially from having this link and are learning the importance of tolerance and understanding in our multicultural society." |
