Pupils get bookish at The Hawthorns
Published: Wednesday, 22 February 2012 21:22

Author Tom Palmer with Hawthorns pupils during Book Week.

The inaugural Hawthorns Prep School Book Week flew by earlier this term in a flurry of author visits, competitions and activities. Every day a 'Mystery Reader' appeared in the School Library. Highlights included the Head of Games, Mr Morris, reading from Aesop's Fables and the Bursar, Mr Whiffin, enchanting his young audience with expressive readings of his favourite A. A. Milne poems. A story treasure hunt outside kept Years 3-6 entertained, despite the icy temperatures.

One of the special visitors to the school during Book Week was Tom Palmer, a successful children's football and rugby author, whose interactive presentations culminated in a penalty shoot-out!

Competitions included matching the teacher with their favourite book, designing a film poster for a favourite story and even creating an animated film trailer for a popular book. The week culminated with a Book Swap in the Front Hall, giving pupils the chance to donate a book in exchange for another.
