Whatever your skills, interests or availability, here at the Caterham Volunteer Centre we have got opportunities to match most volunteers. And now I have been here nearly six months, I'm really getting to grips with the wide variety of organisations and charities we work with, and the breadth of opportunities available. Two organisations I have recently been able to visit illustrate this perfectly. If working with young people is your thing, Clifton Hill School in Chaldon is looking for volunteers – in particular classroom assistants and maintenance volunteers. A secondary school for students with severe learning difficulties, the school is very proud of its child-centred approach, and would provide a very fulfilling voluntary role. The Brigitte Trust, which offers support to people suffering from cancer and other life threatening illnesses, is also looking for Tandridge-based volunteers. They provide a county-wide service supporting people with life threatening conditions to enable them to remain in their own homes by providing both practical help and emotional support. As well as home visitors, though, they are also looking for charity trustees and help with their marketing and promotions, though both of those roles would be at their Dorking headquarters. The trust is planning an introductory day in the summer, so if you are interested in any of these roles, please contact me at caterhamvc@ tvsc.org.uk or on 01883 344444. |
