The High Street in Caterhamon- the-Hill is now even more firmly on the map as a specialist shopping area with the recent opening of 'Left in the Loft' at number 26 and 'Wardrobe 18' at number 18. Donna Ryan and her partner Stuart started out by selling antiques and collectables online and when they needed more storage space for their stock they decided to open 'Left in the Loft'. Caterham-on-the-Hill turned out to be the perfect choice because of all the Victorian properties in the vicinity. Donna said: "We have been quite busy since we opened on 26th March and a lot of our customers are telling their friends about our shop. They have told me that it is nice to have somewhere that sells vintage items to go in their period homes. We also get a lot of collectors popping in to have a look round." Just a few doors away at number 18 Leslee Hallett, owner of 'Wardrobe 18', is also helping to get shoppers away from the internet and back on to the High Street with her nearlynew dress agency. Leslee said: "Having worked for other people for 30 years I thought it would be nice to open a little emporium of my own! My shop offers ladies the opportunity to sell their preloved clothes on a rail rather than on the internet. I also offer space for local people to sell their craft items such as gifts and cards." The clothes are mainly quality high street brands. Leslee's customers can bring in their garments to sell in the shop and Leslee receives 50% commission when they are sold. For two weeks from the end of May, Leslee will be holding a Menswear Offer for the benefit of the local gentlemen! Details of some of the other High Street shops can be seen in the adverts on this page and there are many more including a traditional butchers, a piano shop and even a gun shop that also sells outdoor wear! Many will be open on Sunday 2nd June for the Caterham Festival. |
