Since re-opening in February, The Arc in Weston Drive, Caterhamon- the-Hill has firmly re-established itself as the place to go in Caterham. With a growing list of classes, productions, events and activities the future looks exciting for this fantastic local facility.
ACT Theatre were brought in by Dick Moran to run The Arc and they have worked tirelessly since December to bring The Arc to where it is today. ACT is a Surrey based theatre company created by Beth Wood who is a professional actress and director. Alongside her are associate directors John Soffe and Andy Edmeads who have been devising the programme of events and classes. They also oversee the day-to-day running of The Arc and all aspects of the business assisted by administrator, Hayley Rose.
"It's been an immensely exciting, rewarding and tiring journey", said Andy Edmeads. "We just hope we can fulfil the potential that The Arc has to be a place that people will want to revisit again and again". With no financial backing or support that most new businesses have, The Arc and ACT have relied on the community Share scheme and generous donations of time and money. The directors of The Arc worked for free for three months to get the project off the ground, and still are not on full time salaries, despite The Arc being a full-time commitment.
Over time, more workshops, productions and events will be scheduled in with the aim to make The Arc a regional arts centre, giving Caterham an unrivalled performance and creative venue. Andy said, "Our backgrounds are all performance-based and between us we've got a lot of experience. I've been acting professionally since I was 12 and have experience in voice-overs and radio broadcasting, so a Caterham radio station would be on my wish-list. The possibilities are endless".
The Arc is open 7 days a week, with the soft play open every day 10am - 5pm. There are evening workshops, classes and events throughout the week. For more info, please call 01883 330380 or visit www.the-arc-caterham.co.uk
