Do you remember when railway stations won competitions for their beautfully kept platforms and gardens? As trains pulled in to the smallest of stations there was something pleasing to the eye that quite lifted the spirits. A new venture organised by the 'Community Rail Partnership' plans to recreate this in small towns like Caterham. They are looking for a small team of amateur gardeners who can work together to create eye-catching displays, all year round. Seasonal displays will need regular tending to ensure they are always at their best, so the work involves handling plants and caring for them. Team members will help with container gardening on the platforms of Caterham Railway Station, although it is hoped that additional planting opportunities might be developed. Sessions will last approximately two hours and the hours and days will be flexible to suit members of the team. Volunteers will receive induction training, including details of safety procedures while planning and gardening. They will be issued with high visibility jackets although all volunteering takes place on the platform. This is an opportunity that will require teamwork and a desire to create something for others to enjoy. Do you have the imagination and flair to be part of this project?
