Caterham Harestone have opened an online appeal for Rotary Charity Shelterbox who are delivering aid to the people of Haiti following the massive and catastrophic earthquake there. ShelterBox is run by the Rotary Club of Helston and the Lizard in Cornwall and provides ShelterBoxes that contain a ten man tent, cooking equipment including a mutlifuel stove as well as sleeping equipment, water purification equipment and things for the children. Over 900 boxes were despatched to Haiti by the first weekend of the disaster, with over 1000 more being packed ready for despatch during the weekend. Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic is carrying the boxes from Gatwick and Manchester to Miami where a Shelterbox team is on hand to organise the logistics that will get the boxes into Haiti where another team are already on the ground trying to get the pre positioned stock from El Salvador and Guatemala to those who need it. Caterham Harestone opened the disaster appeal online on the day after the earthquake and by the end of the first weekend had over £750 donated which is nearly enough for two Shelterboxes. If you want to give you can donate at www.justgiving.com/nick-drake and pay with a credit or debit card or via Paypal. The club will also be in the centre of Caterham outside Waitrose and Church Walk collecting on Saturday 23rd January.
