The 7,000 crocus bulbs planted in Queen's Park, Caterham last October have come into bloom for the very first time this month, and it is hoped the bulbs will continue to flower for many years to come. The 'Crocus Maze' was planted by members of Caterham Rotary Club and local schoolchildren to mark the 'Focus on the Crocus' campaign to help end polio where it still exists in 10% of the world. Knights Garden Centre kindly donated the bulbs and the Rotary Club is offering sponsorship of the maze to local individuals and businesses for £15. Their target is to raise £1,500 which will mean that with the match-funding support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, 75,000 children from overseas will be saved from the crippling effects of polio.
