On Wednesday 23rd March the Funds 4 Youngz committee held a presentation evening at Street Youth Centre, Godstone Road, Caterham Valley to award local groups with funding for young people. The committee, made up of six young people from Street and CR3 Soldiers, was formed to allocate money from The Youth Opportunities fund. Local voluntary groups for young people were invited to apply for up to £2,000 and give a short presentation explaining how the money would benefit local youngsters. Using the criteria they had drawn up, the committee decided how much each group would receive. The presentation evening outlined the committee's achievements and work, before the eight successful applicants were presented with their cheques. The groups to receive donations were the Oakhall Church Crusaders, Ridge Radio, CR3 Soldiers youth club, Caterham Pumas FC, The Arc, deFest Music Festival, 1st Caterham Scout Group and Tandridge's Got Talent. 1st Caterham Scout leader, Neil Burtenshaw said: "Without the funding many Scouts wouldn't have the money to go camping; now they can enjoy themselves and gain knowledge and experience." Melissa Allen from Funds 4 Youngz said: "It's been great to be involved in helping voice the opinions of young people. We've all learnt a lot from the project." If you missed out on the first round of applications, funding is still available.
