A Caterham resident has set up a new fundraising initiative to raise money for Unicef by collecting old mobile phones, working or broken, to sell to a recycling firm for cash. Tracey Ampaw of Caterham-on-the-Hill is looking for local shops and businesses willing to be collection points for the phones. The money raised will be donated to Unicef, specifically the million plus babies and children that have been injured and/or orphaned in Haiti. “My idea started as a small venture involving friends and family, as an alternative to asking people for cash. It has started to snowball and now the local schools and nurseries are getting involved too,” said Tracey.
