Bob Gorman from Caterham has successfully completed this year's Virgin London Marathon raising over £2,000 for the national charity, Beating Bowel Cancer. Bob completed the 26-mile event in an impressive 4hrs, 48mins. The 2011 Virgin London Marathon is his twelfth marathon. Bob was motivated to run for the charity for his friend's wife who had been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Bob commented: "The event was extremely well organized and as always runners received fantastic support which was much appreciated, especially due to how hot it was!" Mark Flannagan, Chief Executive of Beating Bowel Cancer said: "We rely on the tremendous efforts of people like Bob to help us to continue our work supporting patients and saving lives from the UK's second biggest cancer killer. We are hugely grateful to Bob and all of our 66 runners who completed this years' Marathon in support of Beating Bowel Cancer." Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest killer because many patients are diagnosed too late. If diagnosed early, over 90 per cent of patients could be successfully treated so it is essential that everyone knows the symptoms and when to act upon them.
