The groundsman and gardeners at 'The Chalet' in Tupwood Lane, Caterham, have been working hard to ensure the lawns and flowerbeds are in tip-top condition ready for the open-air classical concert taking place there on Saturday 2nd July. The concert, the first of its kind in Caterham, is being held to raise funds for the Tandridge Community Fund local charity, that was set up in 2008 to help local causes. Jeremy Webster from the Tandridge Community Fund first had the idea for a concert when Mr Gold hosted an 'Open Garden' event for the Fund last year. Jeremy said: "Mr Gold really liked the idea because he said it will give the public the chance to see his garden in high summer, instead of in the spring when he normally opens the garden for charity. He agreed that the sweeping lawns by the terrace will be perfect for sitting with a picnic and listening to the classical musicians. It will look amazing when the stage has been erected against the backdrop of the Victorian house." Songwriter and founder of the Orpheus Centre in God-stone, Richard Stilgoe will be the compere for the evening. The concert will feature talented musicians playing music by Elgar, Ravel, Chopin, Gershwin, Beethoven and more. The gates will open at 2pm with the music starting at 4pm. Tickets cost from £12-£20 and are available from Vivace Pianos in the High Street, Caterhamon-the-Hill or by calling 01483 444334. |
