Reedham Park is a small, friendly club situated not far from Caterham, in the leafy streets of - well Reedham in Purley! There are categories of adult membership for improvers as well as more able players, but the emphasis is on enjoyment. Beginners are welcome and will be encouraged to take lessons with the club coach. There are also three age groups for juniors to get involved, including coaching and tournaments. One of Reedham Park's juniors, Jack Clifton, has been selected to represent Great Britain in the 2011 Dresse & Maere World Deaf Tennis Cup. It is taking place in Izmir, Turkey on the 18-25 June. This is a team event based on the format of the Davis cup. Jack has been training hard with the national coach, Chris Cash, and it will be a fantastic experience for him. This will hopefully be followed by the European Deaf Tennis Championships in Germany in 2012, the Deaf Olympics which are being held in Greece in 2013 and the World Deaf Tennis Championships in 2014. At 15 he is the youngest of the four man strong team so we wish him all the best! Reedham Park Tennis club has a modern clubhouse and a thriving social side too, with many events held throughout the year on Friday and Saturday evenings. The Royal Wedding day was celebrated in style with a themed "Royal Tournament" at the club which was a huge success. Table tennis and bridge are just two of the alternative activities also on offer at the club. During July the club is running a special offer; any newcomers will be able to play at the club during social tennis sessions for free! So what are you waiting for? For adults, just come along on any Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday from 7pm or Saturday from 2pm during July. For juniors, come along from 4-5pm (under 10's) and 5-7pm (over 10's) on a Friday evening, or Saturday mornings from 9-12. The address is Reedham Park Tennis Club, Lodge Hill, CR8 4AH. Don't worry if you don't have a racket, we can lend one to you, but get those rackets out and join in the fun! So if you are thinking of taking tennis up or perhaps have played before and fancy picking up a racket again give the membership secretary, Viv Heffernon a call on 0208 660 1697 or visit the website at www.reedhamparktennis.co.uk, then come on down, a warm welcome awaits you. |
