The Shabby 2 Smart project that has seen major improvements to Caterham Town Centre was awarded a finalist certificate at the South East Rural Towns Partnership/AMT awards meeting on Friday 1st July. Both Caterham-on-the-Hill and Caterham Valley have been smartened up thanks to the project, and the next step is the proposal to build a mini roundabout at the bottom of Church Hill to improve traffic flow. The award was the fourth won by ABC Caterham in the last five years including an award for the annual Caterham Festival that launched in 2009. Members of ABC Caterham, Chris Windridge (chairman), Random Greenway and Graham Tapley attended the Awards day, where Chris and Random gave a presentation with a slide-show about Shabby 2 Smart. The day was focussed on issues that included local enterprise, neighbourhood planning, the value of voluntary effort and town healthchecks as a launch pad for localism.
