22 year-old music student, Jemma Riches from Warlingham is conducting her own band in a charity concert being held at the Concert Hall, Whitgift School, Croydon this Saturday 7th July at 7.45pm. The Riches Big Band is performing to raise money to help street boys in Kenya. After studying at Caterham School, Jemma moved on to the Trinity College of Music where she plays the classical saxophone and hopes to fulfil her dreams of becoming a professional conductor. Jemma, who is hoping to achieve a 2:1 when she graduates this year, said: "I started conducting at local concerts to get more experience, then decided to start my own band!" At this Saturday's concert, Jemma's band will play a mix of 1930's swing and Latin dance pieces that she feels is a "good mix of music that will entertain the audience." Tickets cost £12.
