After 13 months of fundraising, the Chelsham and Farleigh Help for Heroes Committee gathered one final time at The Coach House at Chelsham Common to make two cheque presentations. The committee raised nearly £30,000 by organising a variety of events including a Golf Day at Farleigh Golf Club, a car boot sale and a hugely successful Fun Day. Chairperson Boo Marchant was very proud to present a cheque for £14,041.44 to Captain Nkoya Wright from Headley Court that will pay for equipment to help wounded soldiers in their rehabilitation. A cheque was also presented to Avril Bailey from Help for Heroes for £15,850.75. Committee member, Pam Whittingham, said: "Local support was outstanding with collections at Sainsbury's and weekly raffles in The Coach House. Warlingham School threw themselves into the cause raising nearly £1,200. Warlingham Rugby Club, Whyteleafe Under 12s Football Team and the Surrey Masonic Sports Association were also instrumental in their fund-raising efforts. The committee would like to thank everybody involved for their generosity with their time and for digging deep into their pockets. It has been a wonderful opportunity for the local community to get together, have a laugh and raise some money for a very worthwhile cause." |
