Award winning local theatrical group, Kenley Holiday Workshop will present Rogers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! at the Barn Theatre Oxted from 10th – 13th August. Returning to Oxted for their regular summer season this talented team of 50 young people will sing, dance and tap their way through such memorable numbers as Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin', People Will Say We're in Love, Surrey With a Fringe on Top and the rousing finale of the title song. The company are led by a talented professional production team and are accompanied by a live band of 11 professional musicians. The high standards achieved have led to the group winning a NODA London "Young Stars" award. "I was blown away by the standard the society was able to achieve."(NODA London Magazine). The company was founded in 1989 by Sally Dallosso, the Company Manager, and Andrea Green who has choreographed every show since 1989. This year Claire Gimblett will direct and Michael Burbidge will be Musical Director. For the summer show KHW meets at the beginning of August for a week of rehearsals in Caterham before moving to the Barn Theatre in Oxted for the second week of final rehearsals and performances from the Wednesday to Saturday. Set in the territory of Oklahoma in 1906 the show tells the love story of farm girl Laurey Williams and cowboy Curly McClain, against the background of the conflict between the farmers and cowboys of the period. Oklahoma! was Rogers and Hammerstein's first collaboration and the show ran for an unprecedented 2,122 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1943. It remains one of their most popular works.
