At one of the Caterham, Oxted & Godstone Lions (COGS) social gatherings at the White Hart Barn in Godstone recently, Lion President Ken Reissland presented a cheque tor £500 to Victoria Lawrence of St. Catherine's Hospice in Crawley. After the meal Victoria gave a very interesting talk on the work, dedication and care given at the Hospice. The £500 was raised by the Club at a Garden Party earlier this summer during which three young ladies, previously sponsored by COGS for the Lions International Young Musician Competition, played pieces from their repertoire. Those attending enjoyed sandwiches, scones with cream, homemade cakes and fresh strawberries while listening to the music. . St Catherine's is just one of the many local causes that receives donations from COGS. Throughout the year the Club organises events to raise money for local needs and when possible supports others with the same or similar aims. As well as the £500 given to St Catherine's this year COGS has also donated £250 for the Japanese earthquake, £100 for Macmillan Nurses, £150 to East Park Riding for the Disabled, £100 to help athletes taking part in the Special Olympics, £300 to a Sri Lankan School and £300 to St Piers NCYP at Lingfield. The Lions will be running a stall at the Godstone Fête on August Bank Holiday Monday and will be happy to answer any questions about the Club and its activities. On Saturday 1st October COGS is holding a fundraising quiz in the White Hart Barn in Godstone at 7pm for 7.30pm. Supper will be served and there will be a paying bar. Tickets cost £7. For more information about the quiz call Lion Peter Drysdale on 0845 833 7852. |
