Multi-award winning local choir, Surrey Harmony, are packing their bags and setting off to the States next week, to compete on the International Stage again. Currently the highest scoring British women's barbershop chorus of all time, they are hoping to further increase their current ranking at the International Finals of the Sweet Adelines Women's Barbershop Chorus Competition in Houston, Texas on 20th October. There will be around 30 other choruses taking part from across the US and Canada, as well as Sweden, Australia, New Zealand and Nottingham. It is their seventh appearance in the international competition, and the last time was in 2009 in Nashville, when Surrey Harmony came 15th (the highest ever placing for a UK chorus). With each chorus consisting of around 100 members, all in sequins, false eyelashes and matching nail varnish…competition day is quite a sight! Just a month after they return from the States, Surrey Harmony will be performing for Caterham Overseas Aid Trust (COAT). You can come and hear them sing at St John's Church, Caterham Valley at 7.30pm on Saturday 26th November. Enjoy a wonderful, colourful, fun, vibrant and exciting musical evening. Those of you who enjoyed their last concert for COAT know that nobody who comes will be disappointed by this super evening of spectacle and song. Tickets cost £10 and include a glass of wine or soft drink in the interval). Call COAT members Margaret Deards on 01883 380104 or Jill Caudle on 344031 to book tickets. Based in Coulsdon, the choir are always looking for new members to swell their ranks and join the party!
