The Miller Centre in Godstone Road, Caterham Valley is holding an Open Day to showcase both the Club and Theatre Company on Saturday 12th November 2011, from 10am to 4pm. Visitors will be invited to take organised tours to see the extensive wardrobe, workshop, fully equipped theatre and wtage, dressing rooms and the high tech control room. The Miller Centre Club's activities will appeal to anyone with time available during weekdays for entertainment, leisure, hobbies, fitness activities, making new friends, assisting an amateur theatre and, most of all, having fun and enjoyment! The Club hosts Book Clubs; Bridge; Poetry; Scrabble; Crafts; Camcorder Club; Charity Support; Coffee Mornings; Lunch Group; Trivial Teas; Film Club; Library; Outings Club; Painting (oil and watercolour); Wardrobe and Sewing; Folk Dancing; Pilates; Table Tennis; Tai Chi and Yoga. Many of these activities will be represented during the Miller Centre Open Day. The set for the 'Home Is Where Your Clothes Are' production will be on stage during the Open Day. Visitors will be able to see what it is like backstage when a show is in production. This is the perfect time for anyone who would like to become involved in amateur dramatics to meet directors and actors and investigate the many opportunities available. Those who do not wish to tread the boards can undertake other aspects of productions. These include stage management; lighting; sound; costume production; set design and construction; and scenery painting. Lack of experience is no barrier - the objective is for enjoyment coupled with a sense of achievement. The Miller Centre has raised over £468,000 for charity since its establishment in 1977. The Open Day will feature displays to show the amount of funds raised each season and the nominated charities that have benefited. During The Miller Centre Open Day there will be a special offer on new Club memberships - 13 months for the cost of 12. The Theatre's Season Ticket scheme will also be available at a pro rata rate for the last seven shows of the 2011/2012 season. The Open Day is a great opportunity to get to know Caterham's own theatre -The Miller Centre Theatre Company - and the friendly Miller Centre Club. |
