For anyone interested in local history, the Bourne Society has launched a beautiful new website that is greatly expanded from the old one and growing fast. The website has details of all the blue plaques mounted by the Society, including the plaque on the building where the first shop in Whyteleafe, a butchers, began trading in 1866 and the site of the Operations Room for RAF Kenley that was situated in Godstone Road, Caterham Valley. Visitors to the website can also view historical maps, details of all the Society's current publications and extracts from the latest ones. There are details of local walks, postcards available for sale, several interesting articles from past Local History Records and extracts from each volume of the Society's Village History series. The website also contains details of how to join the Bourne Society, which costs just £10 a year. Visit www.bournesociety.org.uk |
