Chairman of Tandridge Council Brian Perkins was guest of honour at the presentation of the Chief Scouts Gold award last Saturday, 19th November. Seven local scouts were amongst sixty from across Surrey who have gained the award this year. They had hiked across the New Forest, canoed down rivers, visited places like Belgium and Sweden and helped run local Cub meetings. District Commissioner Tim Evans, who assisted in organising the evening said: "It's great that these seven young people have gained this award. It's a credit to them, to their leaders who have done so much to train them, and also to their parents who have run them around Surrey for different events." The seven - Emily Wingrave, Sarah Slater, Lydia Gatward and Robert Clark from the 1st Caterham Troop, Jack Lewis from Chaldon, Maisie Stock and Mary Tobin from the 8th Caterham are now moving on to the Explorer Scouts where they will be able to undertake more expeditions and challenges. Also present at the event was the New Surrey Scouts County Commissioner Roxanna Bostock, attending one of her first engagements, and former County Commissioner John Walshe. |
