Over 170 people got Santa suited and booted to show their support for St Catherine's Hospice last Sunday 19h November at a festive themed fun run at Queen's Park, Caterham. The jovial joggers cut a yuletide dash as they completed a 3km lap of the park in a bid to raise £12,000 towards the care and comfort St Catherine's provides to local patients and their loved ones across the area - in their own homes, at the day hospice in Foxon Lane, Caterham and at the in-patient unit in Crawley. Jacqui O'Sullivan put the Santa pack through their paces with a pre-race Zumba session and everyone sung Jingle Bells as they limbered up. MP Sam Gyimah wished everyone good luck and sent the Santas on their way, before donning a beard himself and completing the run. Matthew Cornish, fundraising manager at St Catherine's Hospice said: "It was brilliant event and we're so pleased so many people of all ages were able to join us. Combined with our Santa Run in East Grinstead that also took place today, we hope to raise £12,000 to help provide care and compassion to those with an incurable illness. "We'd like to thank our sponsors Southern Railway who looked great in their green Santa Suits, the Red Cross, MP Sam Gyimah, Cllr Sally Marks, Jacqui O'Sullivan for the zumba warm up and all our participants and volunteers who helped from registering the Santas, marshalling the courses to handing out medals. We hope to see you all at one of our other events in 2012!" For more information please visit www.stch.org.uk or like St Catherine's Hospice on Facebook www.facebook.com/stcatherineshospicecrawley |
