Local resident Diane Pink has recently joined family firm Rowland Brothers as their first ever lady funeral director – a real milestone for the company which has been helping bereaved families in the Croydon and South London area since 1873. Diane has joined Rowland Brothers from her previous company in Hamsey Green, having lived and worked in the area for 11 years.
Diane said: "I know how important caring support is in bereavement. I also intuitively know that people like to deal with a family business, particularly during such a sensitive time. With my strong links to the community through church activities, local clubs and schools in the area, I knew that I could bring much to my new role at Rowland Brothers." Whilst being based at the firm's Warlingham office, Diane will offer support across all its branches including Croydon, Cousldon and Purley. She's hoping to be the first of a new team of lady funeral directors at the firm. Diane believes she was Croydon's first lady funeral director when she started out 23 years ago and is still the only one qualified in the Warlingham and Hamsey Green area.
She said: "In the early days, it was difficult working as a woman in such a traditional and male dominated industry. However, I am very proud to be in the profession, as it is very rewarding and as a woman offering 'the gentle touch' comes naturally. It is an honour to meet people as strangers during their time of need, but leave them as friends." Diane is already making her mark in her new role. She is organising a 'Light a Candle Service' at All Saints' Church in Warlingham at 11.30 am on 10th December. Individuals and families who have suffered bereavement are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided following the service. To reserve a place, call Diane Pink on 01883 623067 or arrive at the church on the day.
