Officers from Surrey Police have arrested a sixth person in connection with an ongoing investigation into bank card scams.
The investigation is looking at a number of incidents across the county when residents, who are often elderly, have received a telephone call form a person claiming to be from their bank and advising them a courier is being sent to collect their old debit card.
During the call they are asked to disclose their PIN number and once collected by a courier, their card is then used to withdraw sums of money from their personal accounts.
Last month officers from Surrey Police executed warrants at four addresses in Croydon and south Croydon and arrested five people on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud and conspiracy to commit theft. A sixth person, a 23-year-old man from Croydon, has now also been arrested.
All six are on police bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Jak Bowers, of Surrey Police's Cross Border Crime Investigation Team, said: "At this busy time of year I would like to remind members of the community to stay on their guard. Banks do not operate in this way and would not request a customer to confirm PIN details over the phone nor send a courier to collect a bank card from your home.
"We are working hard to bring those responsible to justice and I would ask anyone who thinks they may have fallen victim to this type of crime to contact Surrey Police immediately."
