On Saturday, 7th January an Open Day was held by the charity International Needs UK ('INUK'), who have relocated their headqauarters from South Croydon to Stafford Road in Caterham. The Christian-based charity has a vision to make a 'world of difference' in the lives of others who live in the poorest countries. INUK is part of a worldwide network that also operates out of the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The charity has education programmes and community development projects in the poorest parts of many countries including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Africa. INUK Trustee, Tony Tyrrell explained: "Although we are a Christian-based charity what we do is multi-faith. Through our education programmes, we build and run schools and sponsor children to pay for their schooling. We also sponsor staff in hospitals so that cheaper healthcare can be available for those in need. The Christian-based charity had been looking around for more spacious offices and the vacant premises behind the Caterham Cars workshop met their requirements. INUK National Director, Peter Staley, said: "We are delighted to be in Caterham. The new offices give us everything we need in terms of office space and road and rail networks, and it is a friendly community. We are looking forward to getting to know the local residents and businesses. On Saturday 11th February a 'Tango Fiesta' is being held at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon in aid of International Needs UK. The concert will feature the Tango Fiesta Dancers and the Sambadrome Drummers. The Croydon Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Darrell Davison, will be playing popular Latin American music including favourites such as Ravel's Bolero and Bernstein's West Side Story Suite. Tickets costing £16 and £11 are available from the Fairfield Halls Box Office on 020 8688 9291 (www.fairfield.co.uk) For more information about the work of International Needs UK visit www.ineeds.org.uk |
