A youth music evening hosted by a teenager has raised £2,241 so far for a children's charity. 14 year-old Madeline Castrey organised and sang at the event held in Chaldon Village Hall, Rook Lane, on Monday, 19th December. Her sister Matilda, 12, helped with the organisation and performed along with the other youngsters. Madeline, of Roffes Lane, Chaldon, said she wanted to give money to CHASE Hospice Care for the Children's Shooting Star Hospice in Guildford after she spent some time there because of an illness which made her skin break out in blisters. Madeline said: "My time in hospital made me think of the lives of the children who would not get better and I was eager to do something to help. "We have now formed our group called 'Charisma', ancient Greek for 'the ability to inspire' and plan to raise as much money as we can for this worthy charity by performing in many different places for many different people. We have set an ambitious target of raising £5,000 by the end of the year for Shooting Star CHASE and are totally committed to achieving this." Tandridge District Councillor for Chaldon, Pat Cannon, said: "I was unaware of the Shooting Star Children's Hospice until I heard of Madeline's plight. "They obviously perform a fantastic service for young sufferers, many of whom are less fortunate than Madeline. I am proud to be associated with and support our own shooting star in her endeavours to make a difference." |
