The Warlingham Flute Band are holding their 59th Annual Concert on Saturday 10th March. The concert starts at 7.30pm and is being held in The Church Hall, 399 Limpsfield Road, The Green, Warlingham CR6 9HA. The concert will feature a varied selection of music including film and show music, lively marches, light classical and popular pieces together with old time medley songs arranged for six part flute harmony. The conductor this year will be Judith Koral and the proceeds will to Help for Heroes. The band was formed in 1932 as the 1st Warlingham Scout Band. It is now affiliated to Warlingham Old Scouts Association (now called the Warlingham B-P Scout Guild). In 1959, in response to many requests, Girl Guides were allowed to join the band. Things have now moved on and there is no longer a formal connection with the Scout Association. The band is open to anyone of almost any age. Band President, Mick Harewood said: "I am very proud to have played in the first annual concert which was held on Saturday 18th April 1953 and in all the annual concerts since then. I was Bandmaster for over 50 years and subject to my health I expect to be playing again this year." Tickets to the concert cost £7 to include refreshments and can be bought at the door or by calling Angus on 01883 624512. |
