Over ten thousand new bulbs have been planted in the beautiful gardens of 'The Chalet' in Tupwood Lane, Caterham, in preparation for the annual Open Garden events being held on Sunday 25th March and Sunday 1st April from 11am-4pm. David Gold, head of Gold Group International and coowner of West Ham FC, has been planning an even better display of spring flowers this year for his visitors. Mr Gold said: "I am sharing the start of spring with everybody and am building my garden around the two open days. Most of the plants we put in to the garden now are to maximise the March flowering. I want to cheer us all up at the start of summer!" Each year Mr Gold opens his garden to the public to raise funds for charity. This year's beneficiaries will be the National Gardens Scheme and St. Catherine's Hospice. As well as enjoying the flora and fauna of the spacious grounds, visitors will see Mr Gold's personal helicopter on the lawn and his Bentley, Rolls Royce and Jaguar motor cars will be given an extra special polish for the visitors to admire. Football fans can seek out the oldest surviving FA cup that will be on display in one of the windows of the house. The Coy pond at the front of the house is another popular feature. This year's open days will see some new attractions including a display of Vintage and Classic cars by 'Historic Wheels' and, weather permitting, a traction engine. Plenty of free parking is available with spaces for disabled drivers. Friends and volunteers will be selling home-made cakes and hot and cold drinks with all proceeds going to charity. Toilet facilities are provided. Entry to the Open Garden events costs £4 for adults, free entry for children. 'The Chalet' is in Tupwood Lane, Caterham Valley CR3 6ET.
