On Monday 23rd April over 700 children wore their Scout and Guide uniforms to various schools in Caterham, Oxted and Croydon to celebrate St. George's Day. The scheme that started in Caterham about ten years ago is slowly spreading around the area. On Sunday, 22nd April around 500 children and leaders paraded through Caterham Valley to the United Reformed Church for a service led by Revd Watt from the Reigate URC. In view of the weather the previous week, plans had been made to hold the service inside rather than on Timber Hill recreation ground 'in case' of inclement weather. This was fortunate as during the service it rained quite heavily! Sharon Andrews was presented with her Silver Acorn in recognition of all the work she does for Surrey Scouts, and John Clarke was presented with the bar to the Silver Acorn in honour of the work he continues to do for Caterham Scouts. |
