At 11:00am on Saturday 5th May 2012 the new, long-awaited toilet facilities at Skaterham in Caterham-on-the-Hill were officially unveiled by the Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Brian Perkins. Peter Dommett, Chairman of the Round Table also attended the unveiling ceremony alongside Marilyn Payne MBE, Project Co-ordinator and Treasurer, Darren Barnes, Manager and Alex Edge, Junior Staff and fundraiser for Skaterham. Peter presented Skaterham with a cheque for £5,000 as a donation from Caterham Round Table. Other sponsors were the John Cowan Foundation with a donation of £2,000 and Asda, who donated £10,000. The total cost of the new toilets was £32,500 and the remainder of the money was raised by members of Skaterham with a number of fundraising activities including sponsored bike rides, a sponsored by skydive by Bev Howland and Nick Rains and music nights, Marilyn Payne said: "It has been two long years raising the money and the parents have been fantastic. As well as helping with fundraising they helped when the time came to instal the new loos by helping to dispose of the old ones and laying the concrete foundation. The old toilets were horrible, it's wonderful to have these new ones at last!" |
