Surrey Police is appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a cricket pavilion in Caterham at the weekend. The incident took place around 11pm on Saturday, 12th May at the newly built complex on Park Avenue. Investigating officer Detective Constable Anna Blanco of Reigate CID, said: "The newly built cricket pavilion has been completely destroyed following the fire which is a devastating blow to the local community who would have benefited from the complex. "Many local people have already come forward and provided officers with information which is an excellent example of how a community can pull together and assist officers with an investigation. "I would urge anyone who has not yet spoken with us and who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident to contact officers as a matter of urgency as we need to find those responsible." It is believed the offenders gained access to the pavilion by forcing their way through a fence which surrounds the complex. Officers would like to trace four children who were seen acting suspiciously in the area earlier the same day. They included three boys, one who was wearing a burgundy hoody and a girl who was wearing a peach top and has long blonde hair. Anyone with information surrounding the fire is urged to contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference TD/12/2069 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Call 999 if you have a genuine emergency requiring the attendance of the police (eg a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger). Call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you have information about crime and don't want to leave your name. |
