Caterham resident Pamela Windsor has said her fond goodbyes to her colleagues at the Caterham Business Partnership after 18 years' service. Pamela first took on the voluntary role of secretary in 1984 when the Business Partnership, then known as the Chamber of Trade, served Woldingham, Warlingham and Whyteleafe as well as Caterham. Pamela said: "I answered an ad in the newsagent's window in Warlingham where I lived at the time. The advert was for someone to do the Minutes for the Chamber of Trade but as time went on I did all sorts of things. One of the things I am especially proud of is the relocation of the Asprey Fountain from White Knobs recreation ground to its present location in The Square in Caterham town centre. A group of six of us raised £15,000 for the project in just three years by holding lots of fundraising events, including a ball in Woldingham Village Hall. We also secured the parking laybys in Croydon Road and campaigned to stop Pay and Display in Caterham Valley." At a meeting of the Caterham Business Partnership on Monday 14th May the chairman, Andrew Browne thanked Pamela for all she had done for the business community over the years. He said: "Pamela has been brilliant and done so much over the last 18 years. She has been a highly valued member of the committee and it won't be the same without her." |
