Local schoolchildren along with youngsters across the Commonwealth have had their own celebrations to make sure the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is an occasion they will remember for the rest of their lives. Over the last few days children have been seen trailing in out of school dressed in red, white and blue and wearing fancy dress along with many of their teachers! St John's Primary School in Caterham have been throwing themselves into a week of celebrations. The whole school has been taking part in a Jubilee Arts week creating large collaborative pieces and individual masterpieces. Amongst the many activities, the infant children decorated a 3m wide crown, installed on the field, with Commonwealth flags and bright jewels made from a range of materials . The Year 6 pupils have been designing and planting a reflective garden using saplings donated by the Woodland trust. The centre piece will be the Jubilee Oak sapling. Yesterday (Thursday) the children held a grand parade and playground party with everyone wearing royal red, white and blue as the grand finale to their celebrations. |
