15 year-old Amy Earl from Chaldon is counting the days to what will surely be one of the most memorable days of her life. Amy has been selected to be one of the torchbearers when the Olympic flame comes to Godstone on Friday 20th July. The Year 11 student who attends Caterham School decided to apply to be a torchbearer when she heard on the news that the organisers were looking for suitable candidates. "I decided to give it a try because I am involved with lots of different things so I thought I might be selected if I was lucky," said Amy. "When I heard that I had been selected my friends were even more excited about it than me - they all want to have their photograph taken with me and the torch! Our headmaster has already asked me to take it into school afterwards to show everyone." Amy, who loves dance and drama and teaches street dance to the younger pupils, dreams of going to the London College of Fashion after school. In less than a month she will be one of four torchbearers running along the route from Godstone Fire Station to Godstone Green. The torch will arrive at 1.42pm but Amy does not yet know which stretch of the route she will be running, but there are sure to be plenty of supporters to cheer her on. |
