Children at St. Francis RC Primary School in Caterham had the opportunity to play traditional Indian instruments under the expert guidance of internationally renowned cellist, Anup Kumar Biswas recently. On Wednesday 13th June, Anup came to Caterham and visited the school before performing in a concert alongside other classical musicians at the Sacred Heart Church in Essendene Road in the evening. The concert entitled 'A Grande Concert and Party for Music Against Poverty' was held in aid of the Mathieson Music Trust and School India. Accompanying Anup was the wonderful American baritone singer Donald Boothman and Russian pianist Paval Timofejevsky. Also performing was Kaye Bothman on the tanpura and Anup's very talented children, Geetanjali and Satyajit Biswas on vocals and mridangam. Following the concert the audience had the opportunity to meet Anup and his fellow musicians in the church hall while enjoying a curry. Organiser of the event and supporter of the Mathieson Music Trust, Paul Hooper said: "Thank you to everyone who supported the event, which will help to give a happy present and future to some of the neediest children in Calcutta."
