Thousands of local residents, families and friends turned out to cheer the Olympic Torch Relay as it was carried through Godstone and Bletchingley on Friday 20th July.

Many people had taken time off work to attend the historic occasion, and the rain held off for the relay, despite a gloomy weather forecast.

In Godstone, Zbigniew Walczak from Poland, Chris Martin from Kenley, Amy Earl from Caterham and Pam Jarman from West Molesey, were all welcomed and supported by the enthusiastic crowds as they ran from the fire station on Godstone Hill, onto the A25 High Street and A25 Godstone Green Road until they reached Ivy Mill Lane, where the torch was taken back into the convoy vehicle.

After a short trip on the A25, the convoy stopped at Chevington Villas in Bletchingley. From there Mariusz Czerkawski from Poland, Ruth Coreen Egege from Ikeja, Rebecca Burns from West Byfleet, Hayley Fordham from Dartford and Simon Hawkings from Woking, carried the torch on the A25, along the High Street and Castle Street, until Barfields, where the torch was taken into the convoy to continue its journey on the A25 to Redhill.

After the Torch Relay was over, Tandridge Trust held The Big Village Sports Day in Grange Meadow. The sports day celebrated the occasion with activities themed around Olympic events past, present and future.
