Runners are being invited to enter this year's Titsey Trail 10K (6.2 mile) race that is taking place on Sunday, 14th October, starting at 10.30am. The trail race starts on Limpsfield Common, just off the A25 main road between Oxted in Surrey and Westerham in Kent. The race has become enormously popular since it was first staged in 2009. It takes runners along a network of beautiful footpaths and bridleways south-eastwards onto the lovely wooded hills of the High Chart of Surrey and Kent, much of which belongs to the ancient Titsey Estate (hence the name) and to the National Trust. The course is almost entirely off-road and follows a combination of public footpaths and bridleways and private paths and tracks. The first two kilometres are flat(ish), followed by some quite stiff drags through lovely autumnal woodlands onto the wooded plateau of the High Chart. After the first water stop at kilometre 4.5 there is a short loop through the woods that brings runners back to the same water stop at kilometre 6. After that there is no more climbing and runners can concentrate on enjoying a fast, level run back through the woodlands of the High Chart, then down off the Chart for the run home. The finish is on the same bridleway as at the start of the race. The Titsey Trail 10K is organised by Oxted Runners with the support of the parents' association of Limpsfield C.E. Infant School. The net proceeds of the race will be donated to two local charitable causes, the East Surrey services of the Alzheimer's Society and Disability Challengers, who have a site at Limpsfield Grange. For more information and to enter the race visit www.oxtedrunners.org.uk The entry fee for affiliated runners is £11, and £13 for unaffiliated runners. |
