About 125 girls and Guiders (past and present) gathered at St Mary's Church, Caterham-on-the-Hill on Sunday, 21st February for a very special Thinking Day Service.
As part of the celebrations, a bench was dedicated to the memory of Karen Booth, a Caterham Guider who died last year. We were very pleased to welcome some of Karen's family to the event, and hope that the bench will serve as a permanent reminder of a very popular and much missed person.
The dedication of the bench was undertaken by the Rev Frances Baldwin (herself a past Guider and District Commissioner) and Rev Duncan Swan led the proceedings in the church. Our thanks go to them, and Mr Baldwin who played the organ, for making the event so special.
9th Caterham Guides provided refreshments in the hall afterwards which proved to be very comforting and welcome on what was a cold and wet day. It was a good opportunity for past Guiders to catch up with everyone in the District and we were very pleased to be joined by many old friends. As with all good Guiding events the day finished with a sing-song, albeit impromptu, by a group of Brownies whose enthusiasm was contagious, and in the end a Young Leader and a couple of Guiders joined in. It was a great end to what was a very enjoyable and memorable day.
