Sunday, 16th September 2012 is the date when all the community can show their support for the wonderful work that is done for those Armed Forces personnel who are maimed and injured at a Help for Heroes Fun Day being held in Whyteleafe Recreation Ground. The Chelsea Pensioners will be attending to show their support for the charity, which will be a unique bit of history in the making for Whyteleafe. The day starts with a Fun Run which 'kicks off' at the Whyteleafe Tavern. This is a gentle fun run around Whyteleafe, finishing in Whyteleafe Recreation Ground in Hillbury Road. Sponsorship forms are available from the Tavern or from the organisers Tom Dempsey or Sally Marks, see details below. During the day visitors can enjoy sideshows, stalls and games including some great family team games such as Tug of War and the Three-Legged-Race. There will be live music from bands such as 'Wots Cookin' and a Classic Car Exhibition with a dozen or more superb classic vehicles including an Alvis, an Aston Martin and even some Lambretta scooters. There will also be some ancient steam engines on show. There will be food and a bar all day. Some stalls are still available. For more details contact the local councillors Tom Dempsey on 07932 158931 or Sally Marks on 07990 585753. |
