Local resident and Chairman of the Caterham Festival, Andy Parr has been recognised for his work in the local community when he was given The Paul Harris Fellowship award on Thursday 23rd August. The award was presented to Andy at a weekly meeting of Caterham Rotary Club at Surrey National Golf Course for his contribution, which includes his work as a director of the Caterham Community Partnership and the Soper Hall Community Centre ltd., former District Commissioner for Scouting and Company Secretary at East Surrey Dial A Ride. Andy said: "It's a real honour to have been presented with the award. I was very surprised when I found out that I had been chosen. There are lots of people who help out in the local community so I was very shocked that they chose me but I am very happy." The Fellowship, which carries a medal and framed certificate, is in memory of Paul Harris who founded the Rotary movement in 1905. It may be nominated by the Club Council and awarded by the Council of Rotary International to anyone in recognition of exceptional services to the local community or to national or international causes. Andy is the youngest member of The Caterham Rotary Club, which he has attended for ten years. For more information about Caterham Rotary Club visit www.caterhamrotary.org.uk |
