Oasis Academy Coulsdon students open GCSE results live on Sky TV! |

No doubt many Year 11 students across the country had a sleepless night waiting in anticipation of getting their GCSE results last Thursday, 23rd August, but five Oasis students were up at 4am preparing to open their results on live TV! Dheeren Somarchand, Leyla Resuli, Laura Viljoen, Yashley Bissonauth and Matthew Bailey together with Principal, David Millar, were collected by chauffer driven cars at 4.45am and taken to the Sky News TV studios in Chiswick. They were met by programme researchers and after a brief chat (and make-up!) they found themselves sitting on the breakfast TV news studio sofa in front of the cameras! The presenter interviewed David Millar whilst the students opened their results and then each of the students were asked about their achievements. Dheeren Somarchand said his results were "amazing" and said how proud he was of his achievements. Dheeren achieved 18 GCSEs, 10 of which are A*-C Grades, including Maths and English. Matthew Bailey also celebrated 18 GCSEs, 15 at A*-C Grades including Maths and English. Matthew said he was especially proud of achieving a C grade in Maths. Leyla Resuli was one of the Academy's top achieving girls with 17 GCSE's including 3 A*'s and 6 A's. Leyla has all the grades she needs for her Post 16 courses. Top achieving boy Yashley Bissonauth also celebrated passing 17 GCSEs at A*-C grades was "very happy with his Graphics result". Laura Viljoen said she was "very proud of myself" and looking forward to celebrating with friends later. Laura achieved 16 GCSEs including A*'s in Science. GCSE results have soared dramatically at Oasis Academy Coulsdon this year with 66% of students achieving 5 A*-C GCSEs including Maths and English, a 17% increase from last year! The Academy also reports that 92% of students achieved 5A*-C GCSEs. Academy Principal David Millar said: "I am absolutely delighted for our students and staff celebrating today. It's been a real team effort and by working together, determined to succeed, we have smashed all previous school records".
