There was excitement in the air as Tandridge District Council ('TDC') unveiled their new ways of recycling at Limpsfield Church of England Infant School during a special assembly on Monday 17th September. The programme will be officially launched throughout the borough in two weeks time. Rob Luck, the Recycling Officer for TDC, raised the roof as a guest speaker explaining to the children how the new recycling service will work. As part of the talk, he explained how around 80% of a typical rubbish bin's contents can be recycled, and gave examples of what happens to items sent for recycling and what they become once they are recycled. He even got some of the children to take part in a race to see who could sort their recycling into the correct containers the fastest, much to their delight. The children also met Tandridge Ted, the local mascot used to promote council activities to children, and a brand new recycling lorry was unveiled. Speaking after the event, Councillor Tony Elias, Chairman of the Local Services Committee said: "We are about to make recycling for residents in Tandridge easier than it's ever been – with the chance to recycle more materials than before from the convenience of home. The children today showed they know how important it is to keep rubbish out of landfill. As our next generation of recyclers, I'm impressed with how they understand that we should always try to reduce what we do use, recycle as much of what's left and only throw out what cannot be recycled or re-used." As part of raising awareness of the new service and encouraging people to recycle as much of their rubbish as possible, Tandridge District Council will be tweeting recycling facts and information every day in the run up to the new service starting. Residents can follow the Council on Twitter @TandridgeDC.
