The residents of Netherne on the Hill have secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
The fund is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy that is bringing the magic of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities up and down the country.
Netherne on the Hill will receive £21,176 of National Lottery funding to improve the facilities in their village hall. This will enable residents to enjoy badminton, table tennis and other indoor sports such as netball, football and basketball.
The village hall was built in 1906 and has since been refurbished, but improvements still need to be made for indoor sporting activities.
Chairman of Netherne on the Hill Residents Association, Raj Shah, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises and so offer residents the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of sports on their doorstep. We are gradually bringing sport back into our new community with a thriving cricket club and healthy fitness contingent, and this funding is a cornerstone to encouraging further sporting participation within our village.”
